Multiplayer question

Sorry for being noob ) I am new to multiplayer Dominions 2.

My friend and I wanted to play Dominions 2 through TCP-IP. Is it possible to run a server and play from 1 computer? It is hard to find computer just for hostin, you know http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Re: Multiplayer question

like hotseat? sure thing - just set the game to 2 human players, and only host after each of you has done your turn

Re: Multiplayer question

No, with 2 computers. Just without a separate server.

Re: Multiplayer question

Yes. The host runs a server on his machine, then opens up another instance of Dom2 to play from.

I have tried this. But I have a mistake saying "
registration number violation"..

Re: Multiplayer question

You cannot use the identical CD key to play in one game from two different computers. You will need a second copy of the game with a different CD key or play hotseat on the same computer.

In fact, you cannot even play with two people in a game on one computer using two different log-in names unless you have two different CD keys!

Re: Multiplayer question

Sorry I must say that, but the error is in front of the computer - obviously you're trying to start 2 "client" instances of DOM on the same computer.

Do the following in exactly that order:

1) Start the server
a) run dom2.exe
b) choose "network"
c) choose "set up a dominions server"
=> there's a hint on the bottom of the screen !
d) set the server to run on some port (remember the number you put in there!)
e) DOM will tell you the detected IP and the port number (Again); memorize them !

2) Start your client (your comp)
a) run dom2.exe
b) choose "network"
c) choose "connect to dominions server"
d) enter the IP 127.0.0.1 and the port number from 1d/e

3) Start the external client (the other comp)
a) run dom2.exe
b) choose "network"
c) choose "connect to dom server"
d) enter the IP and port number from 1e)

4) Choose nation
=> you need a pre-made pretender for the nation you want to play

5) when all clients have connected, start the game from the server screen; choose map and game settings via the server setup screens that follow
