Is a large game worth playing or will it lock-up

I enjoy epic, space opera games - usually with 12 modded AIs and me... However, every time I am around turn 150-200 I get a range check error.

I also read a post where the player had played to turn 718 and the game wouldn't go any further...

Since a long game is quite a time investment, I hope the patch will make it possible - I don't really like the smaller galaxies as I prefer to build up for a while (as well as letting the AI build up) before meeting other races in war. I tend to use around a 150-175 system maps. Any comments, thoughts?

All I play are large games. (254 systems)

To date, all lock ups have been bypassible and far and few in-between.

Well I play 400 turn games + using the Mod pack on Version 1.30 of the game, I all ways have 255 systems and max (20) players (me & 19 AI). I can't remember the Last range check error (RCE) I got (sometime around Version 1.21 I think). The game runs great. I also use the quadrent mod as well.

I routinely play 250 System, 300 turn games with a few of my own mods and 4-5 I've downloaded. I never get 'em - (RCE's). Running patch 1.30. I have lots of RAM though - Don't want to get into the hardware spec's but IMO RAM is king....

I hope not. I'm on turn 396, longest game I've played I think, and its is the best game yet. I'd hate not to be able to finish it.
