A simple Idea for Dom 3 (I think)
 
Maybe you can already mod this in to Dom II, but it would be a nice standard feature for dominions, in the start-up screen. A tech limit.

I noticed that, in playing the demo of Dom I (for the no-turn limit, the turn limit isn't that bad in the Dom II demo, but the fact it exists puts quite some pressure on you). In that game, fast research + swarms of mages were good, but there were no "SC's" because you jsut couldn't get the spells/items for it (though you could get decent thugs, as I understand the terms). Suffice it to say, it plays very differently.

So I was thinking as I read about what everyone thought about how SC/mage/gem based the end-game was, some people might not like it, and so a research limit might be an interesting feature. And maybe, if it could also be done, a research bonus for the mage-lovers. I think I would like it.

It is a good idea. There is actually a mod which limits the spells to a certain level. I think it might be 4? Not sure.

I think a version which limited it to 4 was the original one, but versions for different levels were quickly made after the idea was presented. I don't know where one could find them, though.

What you are looking for are the Null mods; SC has made the Null Spells one, and I did the Null Items mod (if you want to restrict items as well as spells).

These mods do absolutely nothing by default, but have all the paths/research levels set, so it is relatively straightforward to change something. If you want to restrict spells to level 2 of research, do a simple Find & Replace on "researchlevel 3", "researchlevel 4"... through "researchlevel 9", replacing them all by "researchlevel -1" (I think it is -1 to disable the spell).
