Help ! Is there a star graphics mod somewhere ?
 

Hi,
Just as the title says : I'd like a graphics-only mod putting bigger brighter stars on the screen...
I've found nice bmps in the Image mod but nothing actually using them - or did I miss stg ?

Some of the stars might be used in mods like Adamant or the Star Trek mod, or any mod that requires the use of the Image Pack.

The size of the stars is limited to 36x36 on screen, so they really can't be made to look any better.

Are you wanting to change the system star map from having those ugly little grey squares into using stars? That would be awsome, but it cannot be done.

no, it sounds like he wants to change the regular system display to show different pictures of stars, rather than what comes in stock. There was a pre-gold mod a long time ago that changed all the nebula pics to be real nebulae from NASA photos, and I think it changed some of the stars, too.

Dont know what happened to it, though. Also, I remember about 2 years ago Tampa Gamer was talking about making a new mod that would replace much of the graphics with nasa photos, and model the systems after our current understanding of astronomy, to include brown dwarfs and things like that.

The next version of my Space Food Empires mod has white, black, and brown dwarfs - plus functional neutron stars, pulsars, and blackholes. Also, it has red and blue supergiants that "occupy" the 9 centre squares. I'll post some examples shortly.

Those pictures are present in FQM Deluxe, which works in SE4 Gold and Deluxe. At least, the ones that don't look really bad in-game.

Ok, my question was about changing the small star icon on the Starmap, but as Capt Kwok confirmed there's not much improvement possible with a 36x36 pic... I've tried to use pics in the ImageMod, but they look nearly the same as the stock ones (they're as small..) http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif
