Storms and the Talisman
I'm anticipating a battle with an opponent who has the talisman. I have ECM and combat sensors. I have stealth and scattering armor while my opponent has organic armor. Neither of us are using shields. Can I help my odds by creating a storm (or storms), or would I just be shooting myself in the foot?

Re: Storms and the Talisman
Talisman means 100% hit, period. No matter what.
Sabotaging your own to-hit chance is bad. Besides, even if the storm *did* reduce the enemy's chance to hit, he would be going from say 100% to 70%, while you would go from 50% to 20%, which is much much worse. |
Re: Storms and the Talisman
Okay. Nothing... but nothing affects the talisman. Thanks. I'll get my chisel and write that down.
I told my partner we had to attack the guy before he got it, but noooo... This is not going to be good. |
Re: Storms and the Talisman
Yep, if you know the enemy has the Talisman you may as well give up on ECM or any other 'chance to hit' modifiers. Bulk up on armor and/or shields and make sure you have the best combat sensors for yourself. Or use seekers that don't need to calculate chances to hit! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif Luring him into a minefield is also a good option. Bring a minelayer or two with your fleet, stop where you expect to be attacked and lay mines, then let him come to you! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Re: Storms and the Talisman
yeah, ripping off your scattering and stealth armor, and your ECM is a good idea. no reason to have it, if he uses the talisman on all his ships.
if you're using seekers, you need to use a large quantity, and maybe support them with fighters. if you're using seekers, you can also ditch your combat sensors and training. Also, if the enemy is using the Talisman, and you are using Direct-Fire weapons (non-seekers) you might as well use point-blank range. it will increase your chance to hit, and he will be nailing you at long range, anyway. |
Re: Storms and the Talisman
Also, you can take advantage of his targeting priorities if he has left them at default. Make one of your ships heavily armored and give it a short-ranged weapon. His ships will target that one while your lesser armored ships can close the range.
