Stupidity Abounds

Ok, I know this is dumb, but I am trying to set up a TCP game as the host/player but I don't know how to be both. The game only seems to let me be host OR player. I feel rather silly about this, but if anyone could help, that would be much appriciated.

As the host, you can only add yourself as a player (or add AI empires manually) after at least one connected player has sent in his empire.
