WinSPMBT Trivia question No #1
Gentlemen, Time to time I will post a WinSPMBT trivia question in order to see who knows better various issues concerning this game. So, I will start with something quite simple: June 1967 In a small map (see picture) you have a platoon of US engineers (formation 285 - cost 76 points) advancing against a fortified Russian position consisting of 3 Russian bunkers (formation 63 - cost 111 points) and a lot of mines and barbed wire) I have set the initial positioning of the two armies on a custom scenario slot 349 (WinSPMBT_TEST), so you may check it. The QUESTION is the following: How many times (out of 5) will the human player win a scenario (with the initial positioning and forces composition of the attached scenario), if he plays as: 1. US (Human) vs USSR (AI) The human player (US) will win: a. 0 games b. 1 games c. 2 games d. 3 games e. 4 games f. 5 games 2. US (AI) vs USSR (Human) The human player (USSR) will win: a. 0 games b. 1 games c. 2 games d. 3 games e. 4 games f. 5 games if you think that the US (Human) will win 3 times the Russian (AI) you should answer 1d, and If you think that the the USSR (Human) will win 2 times the US (AI) you should answer 2c. So someone who thinks that the correct answer is the above he should answer(post): 1d and 2c. The only condition is that the human may not use the Z-fire (23turns and visibility set to 50). [Edit] Additional conditions: The map concerning the trivia question and the exact (type and location) fortifications are the ones included in the attached scenario. The VP flags setting is also the same with the attached scenario. I am looking forward for your answers (please read carefully the question). http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/cool.gif Note: In this TRIVIA I gave you the starting conditions (restricts to positioning) of the test. What you need to do is to try and create the best possible conditions for both the AI and the human. You have the power to change anything you wish during the deployment phase for both the human and the AI (as long as you are not re-positioning or modifying any unit). cheers, Pyros http://www.shrapnelcommunity.com/thr...EST_%2301a.JPG |

Re: WinSPMBT Trivia question No #1
The AI will beat it's brains out as the US player in "futile" frontal assaults but a "smart" human will go through the woods and attack through the weak spot in the rear of the defences that also just happen to be conveniently outside of the bunkers firing arc. The V hexes will be taken and the Russian defences destroyed without loss to the Human US player and the game ends on turn 15 or 16 100 times out of 100.

Re: WinSPMBT Trivia question No #1
Please, pay attention to the question and the special conditions:
Quote:
It doesn't restrict the type of map and the quantity of fortifications. This could mean that the map may be a 100% rough map with 100% forest. In such a case I don't know if the above answers would be correct, but since this is the first trivia question, I will make another clarification: The map concerning the trivia question and the exact (type and location) fortifications are the ones included in the attached scenario. The VP flags setting is also the same with the attached scenario. I will edit this addition to the first post. So, which do you think are the correct answers? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/cool.gif cheers, Pyros p.s if for instance the game length was set to 15 turns then the US wouldn't be able to win (even if played by the human player). So perhaps the obvious is not always the correct answer. If for example, I had included a mortar then the player could lay smoke in front of the bunkers (or he could pre-designed such an action for the AI). What I mean is to only take as granted the initial positioning and nothing else if not mentioned in the special conditions for the test scenario. Note: In this TRIVIA I gave you the starting conditions (restricts to positioning) of the test. What you need to do is to try and create the best possible conditions for both the AI and the human. You have the power to change anything you wish during the deployment phase for both the human and the AI (as long as you are not re-positioning or modifying any unit). |

Pyros,
The answer is quite obvious! The side that I choose to play will always win! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/biggrin.gif |

Here are the correct answers for this question:
1F and 2A The reason why the above are the correct answers is the proper use of waypoints. I have attached the same scenario but I added some waypoints for the US player. Once you download the scenario you may play it either as: 1. US (AI) vs USSR (AI) in order to observe the action or as 2. US (AI) vs USSR (Human) if you think that you can win the AI. cheers, Pyros |
