PBW game idea

In one of my PBW games we've encountered a bit of a row between players based on different concepts of what is/isn't allowable when it comes to AI empires. One camp is saying that they are a form of resource to be exploited like an asteroid field, while the other is claiming that they should be treated like any other human controled empire for RP sake.

This got me to thinking and I've come up with an idea for a PBW game and wanted to see if there was any interest.

For each human player, there is also a neutral AI. The AI's home system would be very close (if not right next) to the player's home system. Each player must take up the role of Guardian for this neutral. Everyone must try to make their neutral the most successful empire they can.

Some neutrals may not even like their guardians but that's too bad. The interesting point of this is the fact that neutrals cannot pass through warp points. It would be up to the Guardian to provide for the expansion ability.

Just an idea.

And another idea for a PBW game: an SEIV skills competition. Space for 9 players. split into 3 'teams' (though not working together nessesarily). Each player has space for 3 systems each, but actual use would depend on how the game plays out.

The goal: in the center of the map are Goal Systems loaded with Point Planets. He who colonizes the most Points Planets wins!

The trick: between the starting systems and the Goal systems are a series of skill-testing systems. Nothing fancy, stock rules. Each system would contain the rules for each skill test.

Re: PBW game idea

Check out my Imperialism Mod. Its tweaked so that neutrals will tend to make treaties with you, and keep them. And when you have treaties with them (Subj or Prot) they will eventually generate more resources for you than you could reasonably hope to produce on your own.

Thus, its a valid tactic to give developed worlds to the neutral so that you can make more back from them in trade.

And also, its a valid tactic to make (or sponsor) war against someone else's neutral, instead of fighting the superpower directly.

The beta version is playable on PBW.
