A couple of newbie questions

Hey all!

I started playing WinSPMBT a few days ago, and am more or less getting the hang of it. However, I've a couple of questions:

1) How can I do an assault (I guess it's infantry-only) on an enemy unit (i.e. a tank)?

2) Is there any way to mod the dark hexes (where a unit cannot move to this turn, for instance)? I want to make them darker, since sometimes it's hard to tell the clear from the dark ones apart. Telling the difference is a piece of cake in a desert tileset, but it's quite hard in snowed mountains (i.e. The Andes).

I know I had more questions, but I can't remember them at the moment. I'll post again as soon as I recall.

Thanks in advance.

Re: A couple of newbie questions

1) Get your INFANTRY unit (vehicles can't assault) adjacent or in the same hex as the enemy VEHICLE (dosen't work on infantry). Then just fire at the vehicle. If your unit's morale is decent and it has some kind of antitank weapon, even a hand grenade, then it will close-assault this enemy vehicle. Close-assault represents your soldiers charging over the vehicle, throwing grenades in the hatch, bashing in the optics, etc.

2) No, but you can increase the contrast on your monitor.

And ask as many questions as you like. That's what we do on this board- talk about the game and explain it to other people.

I'm still trying to recall the other questions. They'll probably arise again as I keep playing.

Two more questions!

3) How do I tell my units (I guess it only applies to infantry) to dig in? Is there a command or do they do it automatically after being static in an hex after a set period of time?

4) Is it possible to add custom countries and units into the game?

3) I believe in WinSPMBT that you can only dig in infantry and emplace vehicles and artillery depending on mission type, such as being the defender. Infantry may dig in if left alone for long enough, can't remember. Trenches and the like stay around though during defend missions so moving infantry back to trenchs or into sandbag emplacements and leaving them static digs them back in (if your units were chased from their positions or you otherwise moved them).

4) You can rework an OOB in the game entirely, as to represent another country, but the tools available to the consumer do not allow countries to be added.

But if I mod a country, can I change its flag? And when reworking OOBs, can I add custom units (fictional, I mean)?

If you know how to make graphics, you can change the flag. You can't change the country name, that requires the source code. You can add custom units within limits. You can't add unit types not in the list. (no bridgelayers for example.)

You only get dug in units if you are playing an assualt/defend game. They do not dig in otherwise either by game command or by leaving them static for X number of turns
