Harmonics Racial Tech Area
I'm creating a new tech-set to be used on it's own / combined into other people's mods and I wanted some suggestions / feedback.
The racial area is "Harmonic Manipulations" (1500 points) This gives rise to the theoretical tech area "Harmonics". Once this is researched you can start on "Harmonic Technology" (Applied Science) and "Harmonic Weapons" (Weapons Technology). What I have so far:- Under "Harmonic Technology" you can find harmonic Versions of all the engines (by that I mean 1 harmonic Version per class of engine) and harmonic shields (shield + cloak in one). Other ideas include:- Under "Harmonic Technology" Harmonic Sensors (detect psychic and EM cloaks) Sonic mineral extractors (both for planet / ships) Under "Harmonic Weaponry" Sonic Disruption Cannon (high range, high damage, high damage falloff) Resonance Cascade Mines Harmonic Shockwave Missiles The engines I have so far mirror the class III Version of the standard engine but with 2 move per engine... is this too much? (engine takes up 15kt rather than 10kt and costs more) The Harmonic Shields only go upto Class 4 of each type (phased and normal), available 1 tech level later than the standard shield, adds EM passive and active cloaking. Sonic weapons aren't going to work outside an atmosphere, so they'd have to be a troop weapon. This doesn't preclude other harmonic weapons, though. True... although when I first thought of harmonics I thought of resonating space and other ideas like that.

Possum : Sounds like a good idea... do you still have the technology set?

2 movement per engine is overkill... they'll be zooming allong at a max speed of 19! (12 engine +3 for quantum + 3 for solar + 1 for prop. expert.)... I suggest just increasing the bonus speed by 1 maybe 2 if you increase the weight of the engines.

Hmm, I agree on the overkill front...
I was looking for a way to get more move/engine and this way it works out as 3/2 for the space required... perhaps if I increased the size to 20Kt per engine This way you can only have a max speed of 19 if you *seriously* skimp on other components...
