Where is Republican Spain?
 

Ok, not sure if this is just a difference between the purchase vs the free download versions but I did download the game and for some reason I normally cannot see Republican Spain listed in the nation flags when choosing sides for a scenario or going into the Encyclopedia. Only time I can see it is if I first click on a scenario that uses Republican Spain and then go to the Encyclopedia - seems weird... Bug or not? Thanks!

It could be to do with the dates you are set at. Have a look at the dates from ascen with R spain, then set you prefs to that date and try spinning up a battle...it should work.

To see the availability dates for the various armies, see the "Historical Notes" section of the Game Guide. Then either read the write-up for that nation, or refer to the table at the foot of that section.

Also - when using "short timer" nations, you can have problems with selecting dates, if one or more these are set as the selected nations, the date selector will use the earliest date and/or end date of the short-time nation(s) you have selected as upper and/or lower date "stops". (see Game Guide, "Playing a Single Battle", Paragraph on battle date).

Republican Spain only exists BEFORE May 1939. After that it doesn't exist and therefore the national flag button will not display it as a potential combatant.

It works the same in both versions of the game

Yep that was the problem -- thanks for pointing it out! Just didn't realize that the start date also affects the nations available in the Encyclopedia
