I prefer media jukebox from jriver myself. Got some really nice playlisting facilities.

What playlisting facilities do you need for movies beyond just a simple ordered list?

Re: OT: What Is A Good

As well as mp3s I collect music videos in various video formats.

With MJ I can put these video files into my playlists alongside my mp3s, then playlist them according to genre, keyword etc. This is probably fairly standard now, but when I was first looking for these features 4-5 years ago there wasn't much software available that could do it.

And I stay as far away from M$ mediaplayer as I possibly can. I don't think I've ever even used it once on my machine.

VLC (Video Lan Client, see post #2) is probably your best choice.

Thanks guys. Every time I fire up Real Player my pest patrol thingy starts to beep and doesn't stop beeping until I shut that invasive sony wannabe program off. So any player that doesn't attept to "gather" information "from" my PC and "send" it to "unknown" parties would be much preferred.

Uninstall Real Player and Quicktime, then get the Real and Quicktime Alternatives on the free-codecs site. With these installed, you can play the movies in a general player, such as Media Player Classic. I think VLC is capable of using the codecs as well, but I am not sure since it tends to go against propriety and integrates its own codecs...

Personally, I think MPC is a better player than VLC. Try them both and see which you prefer. Both can even play DVDs, so you don't need any shoddy DVD programs (such as Cyberlink PowerDVD) either. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif
