SEIV CD Docs
This might not be legal but could someone post or send me the SEIV CD docs? I have been trying to play the demo for about a month and even the most basic info isn't in the help, like what the red barrels are or even how to fight. I'm afraid to shell out $40 and find out I can't play the game because of lack of info. For $40 you would think the game would come with a good manual which I know isn't the case because people ***** about it all the time on here, maybe you SEIV vets could make one, hint, hint, LOL

Re: SEIV CD Docs
The barrel Icons on ships show fuel (supplies) warnings. The yellow barrel icon indicates less than 1000 supplies ("scraping the bottom of the barrel" http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif)
Red means you're totally outta supplies. If your ships are showing no supplies as soon as you build 'em, check to see if they have engines. I've made more than my share of designs that lacked engines as I got carried away with shields and weapons http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif The red, crinkly 'tower' icon on a planet (sometimes confused with the red barrel) indicates that there is no spaceport in the system to get the research/intel/resources to you. Fighting takes practice to master, but if you have a more focussed question (ie. how to fire guns, how to move etc) ask in the forum and you will get an answer within 24 hours. This forum is your best source for SE4 help. [This message has been edited by suicide_junkie (edited 04 May 2001).] |
Re: SEIV CD Docs
I would recommend that you fight tactically until you get the hang of the game. It is the easiest to learn. Try one ship on one ship combat first. Left click on the map to move, left click on your target to fire, right click on a ship to see the components, it is fairly straight forward.
Strategic combat take a lot more thought because you have no control over your units once the combat begins. How well you do in combat depends on your formation, fleet/ship strategy, which ships stay in formation etc. The explanations on how to modify, change, and understand these things are not well explained in the manual. Definately post questions on the forum. You will get plenty of responses. |

Re: SEIV CD Docs
There is no docs on the demo CD. I was talking about the full game. If someone could post or send me the HTML manual for the full game.
Thanks for the info on the fighting and what the barrels mean. Yes this forum is a good source of info. |
Re: SEIV CD Docs
A demo CD is just that, a taste of the full game.
You don't get the full manual with other games so why should you get it with this demo??? It is a bit annoying not know what things are but when you buy the full Version it is a lot easier to play. My advice buy the game and enjoy..... |
Re: SEIV CD Docs
FYI: I think Erhardt wasn't refering a *a* demo CD, he was refering to *the* demos on the *SE4* CD, hence the manual question http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif

Re: SEIV CD Docs
AFAIK, there isn't any "demo CD" for SE4; you just download the demo file from the website. At least that's what I did. I also found the tutorial, which is exactly the same in both the demo and full Version, sufficient to learn the basics of play. Reading the print and CD manuals added some details, and anything else I've been confused on has been answered on this board. I honestly don't understand what problems Darkstar is having.

Re: SEIV CD Docs
The HTML help that comes with the full Version isn’t all that great. A good old fashion windows help file would have been much better. This would have allowed actual searching of the manual.
The paper manual is a joke. It functions as a sort of introduction and quasi index for the CD manual. I really expected more for my money. The game is great, the documentation is not. |
