Management of mods
Hi,
If your like me you do all your multiplayer stuff with the standard data files. However when you play by yourself you prefer to use the TDM mod cause the races are a bit more challenging. The issue is here that I have to either maintain to space empires directories on my machine or modify the path.txt everytime I go to play a game. What would be really cool is if you could have multiple paths in that path.txt and when the game starts it just brings up a list of what you want to play. That way if I doing my PBEM turn I just choose the standard stuff and if I'm playing against the AI I can choose the mod. Alternately I guess I could just create some sort of bootstrap program that lets me choose the path.txt before I start. Byea |
Re: Management of mods
I agree it can be a bit tedious to open up the path.txt and edit if you want to switch back and forth between mods and PBEM. But as you said it should be too hard to write a little program to do that. For now a batch file should be ok. Should be fairly easy to do also, just have it copy and rename your different path files. Probably wouldn't be too hard to do a nicer frontend for that either. Unfortunately front ends are not one of my strong points, otherwise I'd try one with Java or VB.

Re: Management of mods
I've done as suggested above (or below). I just made a simple little batch file that rename 2 different path files to switch between a mod path and an unmodded path.
Of course I still have to click it before use which is a mild pain, but oh well. Alternativly, I suppose you could have a batch that would first switch path's and them immediately run SEIV thereby saving a mouseclick or two... Ken |
