Question about the Random Map Generator

After looking at the random map that Gandalf uploaded I wondered if it was currently possible to mod the map generator itself. More specifically, the graphics that it uses. Could a mod specify replacement tiles for mountains or trees for example? If this is not already possible, would the gracious and kind hearted devs consider it as a potential future addition? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Btw: What I have seen so far looks fantastic, I just like to tinker. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/biggrin.gif

There is a map editor in the game tools menu. Im not sure of the answer to your question but you can always take the image into a paint program and swap out items. It would be cool if we could get some graphic artists to create some image pages that we could use to touch up the maps.

By the way..
you might be interested in this page of test maps

And this one that I was working on for an interesting AI game where you would tend to only fight one or two nations at a time but they all could be in the game

Currently you cannot mod map sprites, but it is a great idea.

It shouldn't be too hard to add in a patch.

Maybe as a "if file exists then use file" type of thing. A template file can be provided, and if the person makes changes then saves it as a set name like "mymap.png" then the game will use them.

Re: Question about the Random Map Generator

Ooh, can a random seed be saved so you could share a map by giving someone the random seed (and randomization settings as well, probably) and let them generate it themselves?
If not, its a nice idea for a patch ^_^

Re: Question about the Random Map Generator

Nope, no seed. And I highly second the request http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

I have not even played the game yet and I am already looking forward to the patches! Thank you for considering the idea Kristoffer http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

The ability to share seeds and settings would be nice addition, so I will third that request as well.

Re: Question about the Random Map Generator

Most of the usual needs for sharing seeds is already handled. In Dom3 you dont have to have the map to join a game (it will deliver the image). And maps that are really huge might not be able to generate on someone elses machine. Im also not sure if all of the randoms are linear so we can get the same result.

But I would like to see it because I would like to play with the switches. Id also like to see a switch for turning off the graphics. Not because Id make a map without them, but because I would like to be able to generate a second game map that only showed the provinces and water with no shading for some fancy scorekeeping and such.
