Laughing at myself--and sharing it with you!
So, I'm new to SE, played several full games against the computer--mastered Tactical and realized that it must be discarded to play against other humans. Got used to the strategic method of fighting, and not getting the results I anticipated... but progressing none the less.
Decided to try simultaneous game to get even closer to playing humans (without making a total fool out of myself) and accidently glassed an allies Homeworld--oops-86 satellites and a fleet did more than the 'oppression' role I had intended... so I went back to the last save and changed the strategies, removed some sats... etc - (do over! sorry guys...) tried to figure out the right methods of not killing 98% of their race... BUT (most of you are shaking your heads or laughing WITH me now) odd things were happening to me. . . 1. I tried it several times until I didn't wipe them out. 2. When I finally noticed it my storage of min, org and rad were all filled to max. . . 3. the year was 'jumping' WAY ahead of my 'current' year... 4. I finally realized in a simultaneous game you really can't go back for another try-what happens has happened, saves don't matter- the game marches on each time you press the "Next turn" button. (lucky the research was on renew projects!!!) So, now I have stockpiled resources, no new ships, many 'obsolete' ships on the front lines, and a bit of catching up to do. LOL good lesson for me- is there a way to go back or am I right - whats done is done, and move on? By the time I realized it I was filling out a turn and the date would change by 1.8 years--18 turns of spinning my wheels and wasting resources! The comeback will be fun, hope you at least smiled at my mistakes, it did make me laugh out loud. |

You can go back but you have to make a seperate save first. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Re: Laughing at myself--and sharing it with you!
I do this a lot when I'm doing tests of new versions of my mod.
I have a second save file (test.gam and test1.gam). When you process the turn, it will automatically update and resave the test.gam file. I get into the habit of saving to test1.gam before ending the turn. That way, I can go back if I need to. |
