D&E Section – OOB 15 Australia

Thought I had posted this already seems to have vanished.

In the Australian OOB there is formation #53 D&E Section. Its dates are 1/46 to 12/120. It has as template Unit #360 Rifle Section Class #195 Engineer Support Squad. But this Unit dates are 1/58 to 12 71.
The end date is not an issue as there are follow on units for this. The start date for Unit #360 of 1/58 is the earliest for units of this class hence from 1/46 to 1/58 this formation #53 D&E Section will appear in the buy screen, Infantry, but its empty.

Unit #359Rifle Section Class #195 Engineer Support Squad has dates of 1/60 to 12/65 and the main weapon layout is .303 Rifle and the .303in Bren LMG.

Unit #360Rifle Section Class #195 Engineer Support Squad has dates of 1/58 to 12/71 and the main weapon layout is 7.62mm SLR, 7.62mm M60 LMG and the L4 7.62mm LMG.

A few things from this:
1. With Formation #53 D&E Section do the dates need fixing?

2. Do the two units #359 and 360 have the correct dates and or weapon layouts?
A .303 rifle and Bren in the 60’s seems at odds at replacing a 7.62mm Rifle and LMG in that period.

Re: D&E Section – OOB 15 Australia

I'm guessing that the template unit for the D&E section that ended being unit 359 should have been unit 110 ( instead of unit 105 ). When that change is made ( and the unit class changed ) everything works

Now.... why the section starts in 1946 and ends 2020 and the platoon starts in 1966 and ends 1971 is another mystery.......

Re: D&E Section – OOB 15 Australia

The D&E section is really only used in the independant rifle company which was for malaya etc, though the org has been kept to 2020 perhaps for similar detached units in remote jungle locations. As far as I recall, this formatiom was the only one to use some attached engineers (the D&E section - Defence and Engineering IIRC).

Where the "D&E" [/b]platoon[/b] came from, IDK. Perhaps one of the OOB design team made it to hold the D&E unit class, not knowing about the use of the thing in the independant rifle coy?.

Cheers
Andy
