Help! mages not casting spells I ask for in battle
 

For some reason, I script my mage (in this case, my pretender) to cast a certain spell in battle.

Sometimes it works, but I tried falling fires and fire storm and the spell won't cast. The mage is capable of casting it and I do have enough gems (on the caster's person) but it won't cast the spell. What's going on?

There could be a range problem or (in the case of fire storm) the mage may decide its not worth casting.

Sometimes, for spells like fire storm, your mages consider it's better to save the gems if the ennemies look weak.

They may also be affected by the tactical ftaghn, a disease affecting numerous creatures of the Dominion world, created by secret worshipers of a god from R'lyeh.
