Getting AI to demand surrender

I have been trying for ages to get a race to demand the surrender of an enemy, it doesn't seem keen to do it.

Are there any known ways to inrease the chance of this?

I don't know this for sure, it's only an educated guess... but I think the AI will demand surrender when they're 10x their enemy's size (which also happens to be the size humans have to be to get an AI to surrender to them, which is where I get the educated guess http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif ). If you're trying to help the AI along, I would say go in and kill all the ships of the smaller AI, since ships are a large part of the score. You could also try building a bunch of big ships with no non-essential components and giving them to the bigger AI as a gift.

Well...

I am watching my AI run itself by setting all the ministers on, some of the empire options off, then just hitting "end of turn" and seeing how my AI performs.

It will consistantly wear it's enemies down to next-to-nothing (just a weakened homeworld and no ships) but doesn't seem to ever demand surrender... If I go in and demand surrender it will be accepted so the thresholds have all been met, and in the politics file I have tried lots of different settings.

Is it just because I'm playing the race "as a player" but with full AI on? If I let it play as a proper computer-run empire will that be different (and how can I check results)?

Thanks in advance - maybe when I've sorted this out and checked it on 1.35 I can zip up my race and let everyone test it for me...

I had the same problem, and the consensus is that it is currently not possible to get the AI to demand surrender. There are apparently a number of items in the politics file that are not yet operational.

It's probably not what you wanted to hear, but I hope it helps.

Re: Getting AI to demand surrender

Thats not what I wanted to hear because:
1. the AI can't do what I want it to do.
2. I just wasted 400 hours trying.
3. Just because, anyway.
