Because the powers of holyness stem from the belief in the almighty god.
The god, being the god himself, doesn't have much cause to believe in himself as a god, especially since he knows he is not yet a true god.

Yeah, that's kind of funny and struck me as odd when I started playing ..Dom:PPP more than 3 years ago !

If a pretender is modded to have holy magic, the game crash after 1 turn (seen in the bug thread), but they can be made sacred I think (or at least become sacred during the game by giving them a Shroud of the Battle Saint).

About the heal ability it looks like it affects all units except the user, it's the same for arco/EA ermor healers.

Oh, come on. I know that's not the point, but pretenders are already buff enough.
- pretender bonus ! (MR, morale etc, hp)
- significant bonuses for typically HIGH magic skills
- can be essentially resurrected with prayers
- probably some spells will never work on pretenders, like charm, enslavement... althrough it could be cool to enslave your competition !
- things I forgot
- things I was never aware of

There are two mod commands for healing. Rejuvenation or some such gives him the ability to heal, as Pangaean units. Heal gives the Arcos/EA Ermor ability.

Shroud of the Battle Saint doesn't work on pretenders IIRC. I think it was actually fixed as a bug in some DomII patch.

Remember that these are not gods. They are "pretenders" who have become powerful enough to claim to be gods. They are still working on the godly part. At the moment anyone who doesnt believe in you, you are smiting with your armies. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

I have a pretender with Holy magic and it didnt crash my game. All you need to do is give it holiness as well (thats #holy).
If you want him to self heal give him #heal command.
