Noob questions...so to speak

Hi all,

just some questions. I am not totally a noob but (shame on me) I never got really around to fully play SE4. (lack of time, workload..you know the drill). I did play a time, then had to stop for weeks/months and begann anew because I could not remember what I intended to do.

As of this I never really mastered a lot of things and would like to ask (as SE 5 is basically similar in a lot of things) if there are any good "how to (use)..." guides on SE4. (links)
I think I am doing ok with a little common sense in building planet infrastructure or shipdesigns, exploring...(the basic things).

Especially I am looking for explanations on use and
intention of drones, making/managing/using ship&fleet strategies...

the pdf manual is good but basically it explains the screens and not in deep how to use certain things like diplomacy, strategies with some some examples how to do certain things and some not.

BTW, would it be possible to make a strategie for a fighter to act like an interceptor ? (e.g. targets fighters and act as a point defense)

Thanks for replies

I reccommend taking a look at the Carrier Battles Mod defaultstrategies.txt.
Its got plenty of stuff in there that was conceived during competitive MP games, and then transcribed into the defaults.

CB mod naturaly gets a lot of use out of fighters in bombing, dogfighting and point defense/interception roles, even though ships are also a solid facet of warfare.
PD is accomplished by simply using small mounts of the standard guns (not autofiring).

You will probably have to tweak the target damage % to taste, and the movement strategies, but the firing priorities should be what you're looking for.

The key ideas are to use the type priority first. Also, to set the "don't fire on" flags. Although this does limit your flexibility, a well mixed fleet containing complementary designs and strategies will flourish. Antimissile fighters will go after the missiles, bombers will attack the enemy ships, and dogfighters will protect them from counterattack by enemy fighters
