Space Empires V AI

I have noticed that the AI is very weak in this game. In the game I am currently playing the A.I did not defend its home planet or any of its 1 dozen other worlds with any thing more than a single satellite. Even with just 10 ships I decimated them in about 15 turns. The A.I was on a medium setting. Also i have noticed the A.I attacks with only single ships not fleets. Can steps be taken to make it much more competitive ?. I played SE IV and found the A.I while not brilliant was still more challenging. I am considering going back to only play it for at least providing some hope of an interesting contest.

Definitely play on Hard and medium/high computer bonus if you've got some experience. The AI really got trouble coordinating attacks and defenses and such, and the fog of war is giving it a hard time as well. If you haven't already, I also suggest downloading Captain Kwok's Balance mod, which makes *alot* of improvements, both to the AI and other parts of the game.

You should have the AI to set to hard so it will use all of its ministers. A low bonus helps them to build more items as well.

The AI in the Balance Mod is a bit more developed and might make for a more interesting contest:

Thanks. I will give both of these options a go.

Somewhat OT, but I was thinking the other day that SE5 with the adaptive AI that stardock made for GalCiv2, could be very interesting.
