Unrest, Spies, and rooting them out?
What are the best ways to find spies that have infiltrated your provinces? In a game, my province defense in every province is 21+ (much higher in some others), I have soldiers patrolling....but I cannot find the spies. I keep getting messages every turn that unrest keeps going up, and it could be because of enemy spies.
I was thinking that a high PD (plus patrolling troops) would find the spies, but that has only happened once. I keep getting reports that there are spies in nearly every province I own.... Thanks Chris |
Re: Unrest, Spies, and rooting them out?
Page 67-68 of the manual describes stealth, patrol etc. If a Spy has Stealth 20, you'd need 60 units precision 10, AP 10 units to have a 50/50 chance of catching it, worse chance with unrest, better chance with high PD. Fast units and high-precision units are better at patrolling and catching enemies than other units. Flying units are counted as very fast (30 AP).

Re: Unrest, Spies, and rooting them out?
The best way is flyers, moving around your empire and patroling. The spell Call of the Winds is excellent. I usually use this spell offensively to attack an enemy for the surprise value. Then any surviving flying leaders gather the remaining hawks and patrol my empire from then on. I usually have 10-20 hawks under 1 hawk leader, excellent use of 5A gems!
Also another cheap way is Ring of Warning +10 patrol bonus on a cavalry leader. Failing that a big army under a leader moving around, but this ties up alot of troops. Light cavalry is excellent at this job, horse brothers are very good if you get them. Of course if your facing the +30 stealth bards of Man or illusionists, +30 stealth/glamour then forget it you just have no chance. Finally if you ever by chance do find an illusionist owned by me, duck, cause a thunder strike will be coming your way, followed by several lightning bolts... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/biggrin.gif |
