EA R\'lyeh Help!
I took over mid game for EA R'lyeh. I have been left with tons of aquatics mages and troops. I have no W1A1 mages to forge amulets of the fishes. I have been left with tons of aquatics. How the heck do I get out of the water?

Re: EA R\'lyeh Help!
As i see it you have 3 options:
1) you dont 2) you get a w1a1 mage to bring mindlords up 3) you make some amphibians |
Re: EA R\'lyeh Help!
You are screwedzor if you don't have a w1a1 mage. Seriously. Voice of tiamat a lot and hope to diversify that way.

Re: EA R\'lyeh Help!
If you didn't skill your pretender to W1A1, then you still have the option of empowering one of your mages, even though it's costly

Re: EA R\'lyeh Help!
You might try some diplomacy. Arcoscephale, T'ien Ch'i, Caelum, Niefelheim, & Oceania all have national mages that can make Amulet of the Fish. Alternate diplomacy would be to trade for air gems from any of the various air nations to empower your own fish forger.
You can muster amphibious mermen and atlantean slave troops, although indy amphibian troops are likely to be better than your nationals. You can use water magic to summon claymen, sea trolls, niads, and kokythiads all of which are useful to attack surface provinces. The kokythiads give you access to strong death magic, which also has a number of amphibious summons that can be cast underwater. |
Re: EA R\'lyeh Help!
I got some pretty good answers to a similar question regarding EA R'lyeh in this thread:
http://www.shrapnelcommunity.com/thr...o=&fpart=1 That said, your slave mages are amphibians. It's only the Aboleths and the Polypal mothers(sp?) who are underwater only. The best solution I have found is to take atleast w1a1 on your pretender so you can make him forge the amulets. So without starting a new game you need to empower a slavemage or mindlord. |
Re: EA R\'lyeh Help!
Not having amulet of the fish isn't the end of the world. The aboleths and mind lords (and perhaps your pretender, if not naturally amphibious) are the only units that really benefit from them. The slave mages have almost the same paths as the aboleths, just less of them, but are naturally amphibious. So, you are not losing THAT much by using slaves instead of aboleths.
Magic leadership will be a problem if you are planning on taking your lobos or shamblers with you out of the water, but you can make a Crown of Command or two to help with that. However, out of the water you will be facing archers, and lobos don't hold up very well against archers. Use indy HI with shields as grunt troops as soon as you can get them. |
