New UCP ships set: TOS
 

I got board again tonight, and decided to make a new set based upon Star Trek The Original series through the first 6 films.

Additionally, I seperated out all the TOS ships from the STNG era ships and made two distinct Races. TOS, and FED. TOS is the United Federation Of Planets, and FED is the Federation.

I used a combination of ships from a few sorces, including two that I made special for the TOS Race. I have also included ships from Warp_nines, Jonas, Flippers, and of course the UCP Federation ship sets.

The AI for the TOS is strictly the one I got from Jonas ST_Fed set. I liked the way it was set up. (NOTE: if Jonas did not set up the AI, whoever did, please let me know so I can give you credit in the readme file.)

Many nice images, though I would adjust it in some ways if I were going to use it. For instance, I'd:

Get a better-looking TOS cruiser (your light cruiser - it's too undetailed and too bright compared to the other models) and make it the cruiser rather than the light cruiser.

Make your (TOS/film Version) cruiser the battlecruiser.

Make your destroyer the light cruiser.

Make your small transport the destroyer.

Find new ships for battleship, dreadnaught, and base ship. I don't think you have a base ship. The mini_battlecruiser image isn't good - weird light blue. I like your battlecruiser and battleship portraits except they are way too bright compared to most of your other images. I would promote them a size and maybe switch their relative positions. Mainly they need to be darker and the BC mini image needs to be re-done, at least making it not blue.

The escort and especially the frigate look too TGN-esque to me.

I also don't think you should include the 290 KB style tester program in your shipset!

If you are wanting to include a viewer with the shipset, I recomend Andres' Lescanos html viewer. It's only 9kb and in my mind gives a better overview of the shipset. Shows what ships are missing, or named wrong. Only thing it doesn't do is show if images are masked properly, but that usually isn't a problem. You can get it at Kuat Drive yards.

Ok, I have done some reworking of the TOS set. I ditched the style viewer, revamped a few ship mini's, and adjusted the ship roaster.

I had to keep the STNG'ish ships, two only, as they are needed to fill in the blanks so to speak. They are obscure looking, so they kinda fit in. Sorry about this, but until I can find replacements, tis the way it has to be.

Phoenix-D : I am eagrly awaiting the primitives mod. I can't wait to start working on some primitive race portraits / troop designs / AIs.

you could try using screen shots from the starfleet command series, I think they cover pretty much everything except for the battleship and one of the carriers for the older feds. They also have a wide selection of Klingon and Romulan, and I personally really like the Lyrans.

As I've been playing them for a break from SE4 once in a while, let me know and I can try to get the ships your missing for you.
