Dom3 Magic Sites Excel
Edit: Attachment removed. See post stated below.
Attached you find a new Dom3_DB_Magic_Sites-1.xls. I used the dom2 site excel created by Edi and can be found on sunrays library: http://www.freewebs.com/dominions2 In red at the end of the list are all new Sites inside the 3.04 program code and all gems/troops/scales it gives. The list needs some additional infos like Type, Level, Frequency and Terrain. I hope someone (Edi?) can add this information. Very interesting sites are: 'The City of the Damned' and 'The Forgotten City' which both let one single commander enter to meet monsters, get experience and find treasures. I would wish more of this kind of stuff in the game. 'Desert', 'Rain Forest' and 'Tundra' is fine for map editors. For example #knownfeature "Desert" for a province or a couple of provinces makes some lands really hot (+heat and death scale). Also funny to find national sites like 'Tir na n'Og' http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/smile.gif Here a list of all the new sites: Augurs' Circle Carnutes Caves in the Deep Cold Currents Cottage in the Woods Dark Waters Depths Unnamed Desert Endless Caverns Falling Depths Glowing Caverns Glowing Depths Gnipahålan Gymnasium Halls of the Oracles Healing spring High Temple of the Land High Temple of the Rain Irminsul Lanka Long Lost Circle Lyfjaberg Mag Mor Merman Village Mineral Fingers Mines of the Pale Ones Mount Kailasa Mount Shinuyama Mountain of the Mystics Mountain of the Oni Kings Palace of the Eagle Kings Patala Plateau of Shards Poison Glades Rain Forest Roots of the Earth Sri Pada Steppes of Sauromatia Temple of the All-Consuming Flame Temple of the Pure War Temple of the Shroud Temple of the Sun The Amber Halls The Basalt City The Bitter Stream The Blood Keep The Cerulean Tower The Chamber of the Seal The City of the Damned The City of Tombs The Coast of Ice and Bones The Dark Crystal The Enchanted Isle The Endless Field of Cubes The Forest beneath the Waves The Forest of Avalon The Forgotten City The Gorge of Ancient Cities The Great Cauldron The Grove of Kelp and Pearls The Hippocampoi Fields The Iron Caverns The Jewelled City The Lotus Garden The Lotus Gardens The Mosaic Desert The Sea of Dead Memories The Sibylline Caves The Sunless Sea The Temple City The Wheel of Pain Thermal Vent Thorn Wood Heights Tir na n'Og Tombs of the Oracles Tundra Villa of Ever Changing Fresques I marked blue the sites which are kicked for Dom3. These are only 3: The Cottage in the Woods The Tombs Unholy Temple One got a rename: The Smouldercone instead The Smoulder Cone |

Re: Dom3 Magic Sites Excel
There is no such site as as Merman Village. That entry is just plain wrong. The Cottage in the Woods does exist in Dom3 but instead of Witches you get to recruit Hedge Wizards there. The Desert, Rain Forest and Tundra sites are all lv 0 sites, so it doesn't matter if they are used with the #feature or #knownfeature command, they will still be automatically visible.
I've been redoing the DB myself these past few days, so I would appreciate it if people kindly did not rip my previous work off and present half-arsed versions of it with just a few additions tacked on. Especially since in case it hasn't already been clear to everyone from several of my posts in site related threads and the bug thread, A new Site DB is in the offing in a matter of days. Most of those entries have a lot of essential information missing that would have been fairly easy to put in with just some basic effort and which I in fact have already added to the new version. I just need to get the Unit DB a bit farther along so I can put in all the summons numbers. The Dom3 DB has been my project title, as Dom2 DB was the title for my documentation project for Dominions 2. So unless you get permission to use it after asking nicely, keep your paws off. Right now I'm rather pissed off, and I'm kindly asking people to have a little patience before jumping the gun where my works are concerned. Edi |

I've removed the attachment. (Merman Village exists i've the site in my current test game and i didn't find The Cottage in the Woods in the coding. The sites for the Hedge Wizard seems to be Thorn Wood Height and Poison Glade.) |
Re: Dom3 Magic Sites Excel
Just let it stay there for the time being. The main reason I was ticked off was that you didn't ask first. It's all good now because you apologized.
As for the Merman village, what version of the game are you using for the test game? Because I'm running the latest patch and I've plugged in every single site into a map file by id number and there isn't a Merman Village there. Not anymore anyway. It's quite possible that it existed in v3.00 and 3.01 and would be in any game started under those versions, but it ain't in 3.04 anymore. There is a population type for mermen, though, which allows their recruitment. The database project as a whole is going to contain lists for the following items (current status in parentheses):
Possibly also, but not yet decided:
The scope of the project means that it will take some time to complete and there will be intermediate publications of separate sections when they are complete. The intermediate releases will require cross referencing with each other because they all need to be finished before the final version is done. That will allow both a final version amenable to SQL porting and a version usable directly as a spreadsheet. Edi |
Re: Dom3 Magic Sites Excel
I used 3.04
#knownfeature "Merman Village" should show the site. I'll let you do a new site list and don't upload the excel again. Its your project and you're right that i'd asked you before upload it. |
Re: Dom3 Magic Sites Excel
I'll take a look. Because I used site numbers, which unfailingly give the same sites in multiple games and I didn't get it. It'll be pretty strange if it appears, but noteworthy also.

Re: Dom3 Magic Sites Excel
I can confirm that Merman Village exists. I've seen it in a test game.

Re: Dom3 Magic Sites Excel
That means that the next test is going to have a reduced site count but upped site numbers for the high end. If it starts giving me crashes regardless, I'll need to go through my test game with afine tooth comb and see what I turn up.

Re: Dom3 Magic Sites Excel
It seems I owe apologies for doubting some people. Indeed, there does seem to be a Merman Village site, at #565. Site number #564 is City of the Damned, which is basically the same as The Forgotten City but a death site. There is also possibly an as yet completely unnamed fire site that has no effects whatsoever at #566. The DB has been updated correctly. The obvious conclusion from this is that either the map file parser craps out at 563 #knownfeature commands or there was something else that gave me all those "sprnumber too high for this map file" errors when I tried to enter them. But that's the end of it. No more after that.
