Change your SEIV starting background image!!
 

maybe it is only me but who else has noticed the simplicity of the rendered image which you see under the game's main menu (starting background)... if you too are bored with it, here is an easy way to do it. Pick your favorite 1024x748 or 800x600 image and place it under Space Empire IV/pictures/game/screens/1024x768 (or 800x600)/

and rename it intro. The original intro has to be renamed before this to avoid conflict.

I use my star craft colonial marine wallpaper as the background... looks really good with the armored marines on a new barren rocky colony - Space empire!

MM created an excellent game engine, but its graphic definatly need more work... especially that intro screen which looks like being made during a middle school graphic project.

don't you wish MM has the same budget as Blizzard? Or Electronic Arts? http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/ima...ons/icon10.gif That would be great!

Incidentally, mods can create their own interfaces (sort of).

Copy the GAME directory from SE4s default picture directory into your mod's picture directory and then you can edit the picture files from there.
Note, you may get some strange results as SE4 has several bits where it will only read the image from the default directory...
maybe this will be addressed in a future patch... who knows.

Heh... a while ago I changed the interface so it would be red instead of blue... I don't think I have the files anymore, since when I tested it I ended up having most of the interface red, and then little pieces that stayed blue (hardcoded http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon9.gif ). It looked pretty cool though. Took a **** long time to do it too (I was bored).
