Need for Password Changing

It is generally impossible to run a long-term game with a lot of players without losing a few of them to wandering off.

It would really be great if the master password could be used to change the players' passwords so a new player can be substituted. Right now the master password can be used to play the turn (only OK if the host is going to do the subbing) or to set to AI (which is really inferior).

Been brought up a couple of times. Worth saying again, tho the devs have a tendency to ignore MP-concerns in favor of SP-concerns so....

Heehee. I always thought it was the other way around. Its taken three versions to get SP concerns addressed.

There's still several SP problems... such as:
AI opponents sending their pretenders into the death match arena which is a very very bad decision.
Map edit commands such as #startspell are broken where it only works for the first turn of the game.
AI opponents are not aware of what items do... thus AI will give a water bracelet to a mage without water magic or a horror marking item to its pretender... and so on.
AI opponents are unaware of supplies and will still starve its armies causing low morale and disease. At least supplies were increased so the issue is not as bad as within DOM_2.
AI opponents lack the ability to effectively use sacred units for a bless strategy when attacking.
AI opponents do not gather any information from scouts moving thru enemy territory... making them a useless unit/expense for AI opponents.

I'm sure there's more, but there's many UNaddressed existing SP concerns.

Obviously wrong; the devs are more interested in MP than SP, but most importantly, they're not interested in doing UI improvements. As the lacking functionality doesn't make the game unplayable (it's merely an annoyance), I'd say it's likely to have a veeeeeeery low priority on their list.

Uhh, actually no. They are more interested in SP than MP. The entire beta process highlighted this fact. And as if that wasnt enough they've actually said in interviews that they concentrate more on SP than MP.

I think that was more "this time". It made up for ignoring it on the previous 2 versions. But I dont get the impression that either dev is much of an SP player. With Dom3 they even included a couple of SPers in the beta group.

Most of the "you dont care about MPers" (or anyone else for that matter) seems to be more of "you dont agree with me" stuff.

Hey, stop hijacking this thread with the "Devs only care about SP/MP" stuff. I'll report you all to a Dev http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

But seriously, this is about the password situation which I agree with completely. This is more than just an annoyance, it causes a drastic slowdown in turn hosting when players lose interest in the game and wander away.

The game host ought to be able to change player passwords using the master password.

Well said. Apologies for side-tracking this thread. The password issue is definitely major and worthy of dev attention.

sorry to remain off topic, it would make sense for the ai to have a more intelligent strategy when set to the top two difficulties.

imagine an AI running a bless strat with all those extra points. so cool.
