PES and myself were discussing that book in the SFTC thread. At least I think we were, I can't seem to find it.

I didn't make that ship, it's from the SE4 Army of Darkness set, that's just how I always imagine them, rectangular with sensor spires, but with a vaguely organic look.

Edit: A new book came out a few weeks ago. Aliens with STL city ships discover the allies but consider them unintelligent because they communicate differently.

I heard about that book around spring '06. I am a little worried since Webber isn't working on the project. White didn't start working with Weber till after Weber had remade StarFire back when it was still owned by TFG. Besides White's writing style can get a little *ahem* tedious. It's still published by Bean which of small comfort to me. I have read the synopsis that comes with the book and it sounds too much like an attempt to remake the glory days of crusade. A race of zealots that are willing to sacrifice themselves in the name of a cause... The more I think of it the more I think I will pass this one up. Although it does make me wonder what type of Uber-technology they will write into this book. I doubt White will have been concerned with any of the "gaming" aspects. At least Weber made valiant attempts to keep the new books in perspective with what players could add to the game.

I still will wait to hear some reviews from others first. I don't expect the book to be worth the money they are asking. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

That's what got me confused. She is an anthromorphic alien, yet the excerpt (available at Baen site) has the aliens with tentacles. On closer inspection her hands appear to have little tentacles in place of fingers. I can live with cat people, though it get old that every time they mention the Orions look like cats they throw in the obligatory elephants are closer to cats than Orions, but it gets even older when the aliens are humans with perhaps extra bits and different coloured skin. In Star Trek it's so they can keep the budget down, but I tend to think anthroporthising aliens makes us too prone to thinking, at a subconscious level, that they should be treated as funny looking humans rather than as aliens with nothing in common with us that should be a threat if only as competition.

"Never judge a book by it's cover"......After all, if you didn't know anything about SEV, would you BUY it based on the box art?? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/biggrin.gif

Yeah, SF box art..sucks. Its actually a fun little game to go through my collection and see which cover arc resembles the book the least.

The winner so far is Storm Runner, with its radioactive glowing huskie and SR-78 atop a grid background. None of which relates to the book at all.

Re: New Starfire book...

I was reading once about Sci-fi in the 50's. An author, perhaps Poul Anderson or someone of that level, was explaining he had a friend who did covers and apaprently they are so busy doing cover after cover they don't have the time to read the book and get an idea what's inside. Thus you end up with the same giant green alien/robot/monster menacing the heroine while the hero looks on with his raygun. Not as bad as that these days but I guess perhaps they are busy. In the Posleen books I've seen 2 different images of them, either giant crocodiles or velociraptors.
