when trampling, are att / def skills important?

when trampling, are the defense / attack skills of any use?
and does the amount of damage caused by (lets say) a sword matter?

in other words, does it make sense to give my minotaur commander the gloves of the gladiator (4 attacks) or a sword with decent att / def bonusses or a helmet with in-built 'powerful gore attack'?

thx in advance for enlightenment http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

weapons are not used when trampling. I don't think attack skill matter either. But to defend against tramplers defense helps.

The weapons would only be used when they are fighting someone their same size or larger. So if you know you'll be fighting the player who's using the nation with giants then yes it will matter.

and even the attack or defense boni of the weapons will not help when trampling, right?
same applies for additonal attacks like the gore attack? when trampling, units cannot even use their additional attacks, even if it originates from an artifact?

The defense bonus will help when the minotaurs are being attacked by the enemy. So if you're 100% positive they'll be ONLY trampling you could equip them with two shields(luck shield and totem shield).... if you want an extra type of attack have them wear a spirit helmet.

I'm not sure if the stone bird, astral serpent, floating spear would also provide extra attacks. This I don't know. I know the chi boots and horned helmet would not provide an extra attack during trampling.

ic -- so the fact that they tend to go berzerk is actually a problem, since the increased attack value is irrelevant -- at least as long as they are trampling.
and the decreased defense value does matter in the likely case that the enemy strikes back.
but what about the increased strength? is that helpful while in trample-mod?

I think only size and movement will help while trampling. If you cant get any more increase to movement(long strides/quickness) then buff him with defence, prot, reinvig, regen, luck, ethereality ect.

berserk also increases prot (also AP? not sure), and keeps them from routing...
