LOS

I have trouble determining ahead of time what the LOS will be in a particular hex if I were to move there. Elevations alone don't seem to apply regularly and there doesn't seem to be a way to check what the LOS of an enemy unit is...

Is there some kind of science to this or is the only way to know is to enter the hex?

Re: LOS

The only way to determine LOS from an intended hex is to judge it by eye. Just like in real life you would read a map and estimate these things, and verify your judgement on arrival at the position.

Re: LOS

lol well that's great except I find I'm usually wrong and end up paying for it!

Either, he'll never see me here because of the lower elevation and the hill in the way <BLAM BLAM BLAM> "Routed"...

Or, Ok my KT has just enough movement points to close in on this hex which obviously has a clear LOS to this Russian T-34... Whoops, nope. Next turn, <BLAM BLAM BLAM> "Destroyed"...

there is an element of randomness, sometimes trees block LOS and other times they don't. keeps it exciting.

Re: LOS

Once you get somewhere, right click to check LOS/exposure; if exposed move or put down smoke.

You should be able to calculate if you can get to a hex as the cost of entering each hex is given.

I thought trees blocking LOS depended on the visibility. Low vis they always block higher vis can see through 1 or 2 hexes of trees. But if you mean elevation then...

You will get better at reading the map over time.

It's a real life tactic which also pays off in the game. Which is a good thing. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif
