My Request to Mod Makers and Strategy First

Hi. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif I was just hoping that it could be patched/modded into the game that big ships have some kind of edge over many smaller ships. For example, I can build the biggest BaseShip available in the game right now, and unless I've got some super-upgraded shields/shield-regens on it, it really doesn't stand up too well against a dozen or two light-ish ships.
I think part of the problem is that the weight limits on the big ships are still kind of low to the largest "normal" ships, but also the big problem is that the weapons systems like to fire all on one enemy at a time. So even if I shove tons of big weapons onto my baseship, the best it can do is take out the enemy one-by-one, which stinks because it gives the enemy a much longer time to wear my baseship's shields/armor down.
If Strategy First or some modders could just tweak the way the weapons system works, I'm sure that all the ship sizes would be more fun to play - but especially the big baseships.

Thank you!

Tweaking your strategies for your big ships can help to spread out firepower. Reducing the damage amount for each target type to about 30% should be sufficient for a Baseship against smaller ships.

GrittyGalaxy mod covers that point, and makes it a little easier to spreadfire weapons, too.

Strategy First only markets the game they wouldn't be able to do anything to help you. That's if you can even get any support in the first place. You would need to address any issues here or to MM the company that made the game. As to your question you should download CPT Kwok's Balance Mod. Also as he said go into the empires window and change your strategy which will cause your baseship to spread its fire. Welcome to Shrapnel! Please come back and join us as a regularly posting member. This is a great bunch of people who freely share ideas and advice. Us modders frequent this site and we can usually provide you support within the hour or the day at the latest.

PS: My SFTC will help in those issues but like the GGMod you will need to be prepared for a major change from Stock. The SFTC-Lite version will come as a bit less of a shock. Also check out the Star Trek ship sets by Atrocities, theres nothing like flying around the quadrent in a Klingon D-9 blasting holes in everyone else!

What? SJ pumped his Mod why can't I? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/biggrin.gif

Dear SJ,
Where can I get the newest version of your mod? I looked in the Mods section of this forum and apparently the link to the latest version is "bad".
Ok, I will try this. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif But a problem I foresee (I may be wrong!) is that if I have weapons that fire at the same time (same "recharge" time), won't they all select the same enemy regardless of damage settings? Because the damage settings aren't "projected/possible", but instead "current"?

Dear Prez E. Shang,
I would try your mod but its AI does not work yet. I will try it when it has AI (I know no-one to play with and usually just leave SE5 up while I work on other things anyway, and only make my turns once every 30-60 minutes, so i would not be a good multiplayer partner) http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

I don't believe SJ's mod has AI either.

Re: My Request to Mod Makers and Strategy First

I don't think he has plans to make an AI any time soon and I am writing for my AI currently but it will take some time to finish. There are over a dozen files of AI code that is rolled up per empire. Since the SFTC and Lite are complete re-writes of the game (no Stock components, hulls, etc) I am ending up re-writing all but one or two of the files. Some are simple and quick like the scripts dealing with research. Others like the ship choice and design are pains in the exhaust port. For example I had to get MM to teach me how to expand the weapon call choices as the base three Stock uses wouldn't allow me to flesh out the SFTC ships properly.

As you should be able to see from the screenshot provided, the missiles are going every which way, spreading quite nicely.
SE5 spaces out the shots by a millisecond or two in combat, so that four blaster bolts will travel all in a row instead of stacked on top of each other looking like one bright shot.

Everything of mine is up on imagemodserver.mine.nu, in a browsable tree structure for convenience.
http://imagemodserver.mine.nu/other/MM/SE5/Mods/
Is where you'll find GGmod.

If you've got SE4, CarrierBattles mod has great AI thanks to Rollo, and can be found under MM/SE4/Mods, naturally.

PS:
You sounds like quite a reasonable multiplayer... player. As long as you can get around to playing consistently (every two days, say) you'd be perfect for PBW.
