Problems with new patch

After I installed the latest patch (3.06) I have started to have some strange problems.

Suddenly when I am playing the interface, the commander sprites and the army sprites disappear. Everything that is left is the map and the brow background. If I press escape I get the gray background with a hand and nothing else.

The game was working before (3.04) and this started happening once I installed 3.06.
  • I have reinstalled several times, and I have removed the dominions folder.
  • I have tried to patch directly to 3.06 and tried to patch to 3.04 and then to 3.06, neither helped.
  • I have triple checked the serial, I even had two friends confirm it.
  • No driver was update in the last week.
  • I have checked the standard points of failure (faulty ram, driver conflicts etc) but nothing erroneous was found.
Specs.
CPU: AMD 64 4000. AMD drivers installed.
GPU: GeForce 7950. Latest official drivers (93.71).
RAM: 4096, Physical Address Extension is active.
OS: XP sp2, fully patched.
Sound card: Motherboard onboard card, latest drivers.

Have anyone any suggestions or should I just shelve the game while waiting for a new patch?

I get this too. I'm running Fedora 6 Linux.

If you get this error you have a bad cd-key.

Then there is at least one distributor that are selling fake copies. I bought it in a store in London.

I will be working in Sweden for several months, are there anyway to get the game without having to order it? Are there any store in, or around, Stockholm that are selling it?

Well, that is pretty crazy, because I ordered it from you. However the bug disappeared when I compiled Python 2.5 and dependencies.

I'm having the same bug, and I also have a CD key direct from Shrapnel.

I have found that if you hit "e" to end your turn and then quit the program it will save your turn progress...Probably not a good idea for SP, but even if you're the last person in on a network game as long as it doesn't try to upload it between hitting 'e' and quitting out of the program you should be able to finish the turn up offline before reconnecting it, so it's a bearable pain in the rear at least.

I get the same error and as I said in another post, I bought the game directly from Shrapnel Games too :-(

What is this Python 2.5 thing? I am downloading it right now to check if it fixes something but cant really seem to find some use for it :-/

Do you need a special cd to install the Linux version? My friend is a Linux user; I wonder if he will have the same problem that I had? Unfortunately he is out of town for a few days but when he get back I will try it on his computer, I will report back then with the results.

Did you double check your cd key? I'm not sure but maybe dom3 accept all you input and maybe there was a typing error.

Your key is saved in a file named 'key' in the game directory, you can open it with an editor.

Re: Problems with new patch

I can't speak for the others who have the same problem but I have triple checked the serial and had other people read it to see if I was misinterpreting a character, each one of us read it the same way.

Ah well, I have now placed a order through shrapnel, and this time I will keep the receipt http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif My manual was starting to get a little beat up anyway.

BTW, kudos on the size of the manual, nice to finally see a company that makes real manuals, last time I saw something that big was the Baldurs gate and the Fallout manuals.
