Network game related questions

When I connect to a Dominions 3 server do I have to have active connection while I make my turn and does this use any server resources? Or does it simply load .trn file at start and upload .2h file at the end and start. Why I'm asking is that one time I checked if a new turn was up with my laptop in a coffee place hosting was 1 hour away and I had to do my whole turn again with a touchpad. Lot of cursing was involved.
So did it really reset my turn when I connected? Or could I have just closed my Dominions 3 and be okay. Can I prevent this by copying .2h file to my laptop?

Re: Network game related questions

If you connect to a game from another computer than the one you just did your turn with, you will not see the changes/moves you have made(in the 2h file). However unless you do new changes (and press the end turn button) no new 2h file will be uploaded (and override the old one).

So redoing your turn in the instance you meantioned was not needed, you could have just closed the game.

Re: Network game related questions

That is not true. As soon as you connect to a game the 2h files will be updated. So if you do not have a 2h on the comp you connect from the 2h file on the server will be deleted.

You can avoid this by reselecting your nation and mark no nation as play by you. Or you could chose not to write your password.

You could also make copies of the 2h file and put it on all comp you use for the game.

In my experience the 2h files will only be uploaded if they exist on your computer, and if they don't the previous will not be deleted.

That seems to be true.

Usually the problem with multiple computers used is that the people end up with .2h files of diferent dates on each machine. Then it depends on how you quit. I havent tested it but if you go to Options and "quit without save" then Im hoping that no .2h gets sent which should save you from having an old .2h sent from a laptop

Yes very helpful thank you. I think I might understand now how it works. So my problem is solved by simply deleting .2h file or whole game from my laptop so it doesn't mess my turn when I connect.
And Gandalf doesn't old file update your turn when you start it? So it doesn't really matter how I quit if I have one.

And I understand that this way I can make my turn offline and have to have connection just to upload it to server so it really makes sense. Only minor improvement could be that server sends you your .2h file if it has one and your computer doesn't have any. So I wouldn't have to redo my turn or copy my turn file if I would like to make some changes to it with a different computer.
Well this is such a minor issue anyway that I'm almost ashamed to have bothered you with it.
