Just got a GeForce 3

All I can say is wow! Man I had no idea SEIV looked so good. So vivid and clear. Not at all like it was. If you can get a new graphics card, get a GF3. I will let you know how it runs the game as it has 64 megs of RDRAM or something like that on it.

uhm... in what resolution are you running se4 in now and in what res. did it used to run?

cos i don't think a graphics card really matters that much for se4 since it isn't 3d.

right now i'm running the game in 1024*768 with 16 bit colors, and i only have an 8 mb graphics card, the only better i can imagine is 1024*768 with 32 bit colors.

GeForce 3 uses DRR-SDRAM. I don't know any graphics card that uses RDRAM.

I belong to the Falcon4 forum (air/ground combat sim, very awesome) and the guys who do have a GE3 say the 10.80 drivers are very good for 3D Gfx performance, as i own a matrox g400 max i don't know what make of card they use, either hurcules or some other supplier, but whatever, I'm glad there is someone out there richer than me (just about everyone i think sob sob). http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/ima...ons/icon12.gif

LemmyM, just to let you know... it DOES matter what kind of card you are using, even if it isn't 3D accelerated. Some cards, ATI in particular, have always had clearer, crisper colors... From what I've heard nVidia has gotten a LOT better with the G3, but I know the chips before were kinda crappy with colors.

LOL,

I have a t-bird 1.3ghz, 512 mb ram , gforce 3, mt 19 sony g420.

windows 2000 sp 2.

the best result is 1024x768 32 bits, the gforce 3 ins't diferent from others cards on this game at that resolution / colour.

You will only see a difference if your current card only allows (horrific) 256 or 16 bit display. 24 bit is pretty clear, and it is hard to see a difference between 24 bit and 32 bit.
Another way to get more out of your display is increase the resolution to 800x600 or even better 1024x768, and if you can higher.
The only problem with that is you need a larger monitor with higher refresh rates. 19 or a 21 inch monitor gives you lots of viewing room. I run on a 21 inch viewsonic P-815 with a Revolution IV 32 meg video card. I run on 32 bit as well.
If you want the best increase of performance, you'll want a new processor and most likely a motherboard.
The way most motherBoards are laid out is everything is restricted on bandwidth in the North bridge processor. Most systems are a 100 to 133 mhz. Now if your proccessor is a 133mhz bus speed (not the processor clock speed). The ram runs on this same system. Your hard drive is limited to this bus speed as well.
If you want the greatest upgrade that you will actually beable to notice without breaking out some sort of diagnostic program, I'd go with an AMD processor and a Abit mother board with Raid onboard control.
With raid, you'll use 2 hard drives as one to double your bandwidth between the CPU, RAM, Cache, and video card to the hard drive.

Swaping a motherboard with the new guts on it is pretty easy, and most people can accomplish it with little problems.
You can overhaul any system practially for 400 to 500 bucks.
Then you'll get into overclocking, and spend half the day with the case off filling the water cooling radator back up with BeCool.

My old card, (Voodoo 3 agp)was dieing for a long time. The resoultion was set at 1024 by 768 (I think) but the colors were off. The new card has 64 megs of onboard memorie, as opposed to 16. The game loads faster, runs smoother, and has sharper detail. Planets now look indpendant of the back ground space, and ships appear crisp as opposed to fuzzy. For me, its a step up.
