Counter to WPs?
 

Let's say I stack a bunch of WPs with Heavy Mounts on a Planet. Assuming roughly equal weapons and armor on both sides, what's the best thing to research to get past them?

Long range weapons are best. Missiles. Then you can 'stand off' and blast away until the WPs are gone. (This is one of the reasons I think stock should have longer range seekers. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif )

Another approach would be to 'swarm' the planet with fighters. Unless the WPs have plenty of PD cannons, they would be overwhelmed.
