Map image utilities?

Does anyone know of any good cartography programs for drawing good-looking maps? I want to have maps that look hand-drawn, but it's rather difficult to get that look with a mouse. I could also try drawing them on paper and scanning them, but I don't have the artistic supplies or talent to do them as well as I'd like.

I have AutoRealm, but I haven't really played around with it much. It's free, though.
