OT: Windows bootup-screen thingy
heya,
a day ago i applied a windows hotfix to my windows XP. Until then, i started my computer and it automaticly entered windows. Now, with the hotfix, it shows the BIOS boot screen etc. and then stops at some menu where you can/must manually choose which system to boot. You wait for a time to 0 and it will start the OS the top of the menu automaticly. Anyone knows how to restore the original setup, without the manual launch menu ?! |

Re: OT: Windows bootup-screen thingy
Worked. Ty.
Anyone know to fix long shutdown-times ? Im not talking about a long wait at the blue "windows is shutting down"-screen, but about 30 seconds of time between you clicking the shut down button and the blue shutting down screen actually appearing. I installed a hotfix meant to fix certain OS not utilizing dualcores but i guess i somehow messed up. My system isnt running faster, but slower thanks to the horrible shutdown thingy. |
Re: OT: Windows bootup-screen thingy
That's because Windows does several things at shutdown, like erase the page file.
Download tunexp.com, I've used it before. It alters certain settings in the registry, as well as defragmenting boot files and moving them towards the front of the drive, for much faster startup and shutdown times. But if it hangs before the shut down screen, it's probably one of your programs that takes a long time to shut down. Steam does this for some reason, and usually Windows complains that it's not responding before it shuts down. |

If there is a delay between hitting the power button and the shutdown screen, it is caused by an excess of running programs and services, or programs that do not quit nicely. One in particular I have noticed is Norton AV. It always takes about 10 or so seconds for its processes to finally exit cleanly. |
