Drones - Advice needed
Hi folks,
I've researched drones and I like their fire and forget mode. So far I've only used them in AP (anti planet) mode. But now that I have much better engines (Jacketed Ion 1's) I'd like to see if the following is possible. The AI I am fighting is using a LOT of satellites (sats) and I'd like to know if I can equip my drones with Point Def Cannons (pdcs) and have them attack the sats with the pdcs, leaving my ships to run free and attack the planet? AND Could I design another drone with a Cap Ship Missile (csm) launcher, a supply hold and launch it into the system firing CSMs at the planet until impact? Sort of like a MIRV weapon? I'm really try the first iteration more than the second, the second is just me being a meglomaniac... As always, thanks in advance guys! Your input is always welcome!@ Regards, Rob, aka dethgod74 |
Re: Drones - Advice needed
Drones will use whatever weapons you give them, just be sure to set their strategy appropriately.
Note that there is a bug where ships/units armed with only point defense weapons will act as if they are unarmed and run away even when targets their PD can shoot are present. This doesn't matter if your drones are still set to ram, but if you want your drones to stick around and keep using their non-warhead weapons you'll have to give them at least one non-PD weapon that can hit their intended targets before they'll follow any strategies other than ram and don't get hurt. |
Re: Drones - Advice needed
Thanks Douglas. I just recently read about the bug you mentioned.
Thanks for the info. I will be testing my theories tonight. Regards, Rob aka dethgod74 |
Re: Drones - Advice needed
FYI, stand-off missile-launching drones can definitely be made to work with appropriate strategy settings.
