v3.06 texture vanish!
 

Hi.

I really don't want to have a complaint as my first post, but...

After I installed the 3.06 patch for Dominions 3 there has been a very weird (and disturbing) 'bug' recurring over and over again without any explanation.

After some time (between five and twenty minutes) of gameplay all textures, icons, etc vanishes without any trace and all that is left is the background (imagine how frustrating it is to try and find Save&Exit button when all you see is black). It has happened every time I started the game after the 3.06 patch and I have tried using different graphics options and what nots. It only goes away when I close the game and restart it.

So my question is: WHY!?!

Yes, a number of people have been experiencing this since the 3.06 patch, it was described the best by Yrkoon in the patch thread. Look there for possible workarounds, too.

Thanks mate. I'm gonna try the suggested 'techniques' tomorrow. I just hope this annoying bug will be fixed sooner or later so you don't have to work-around it. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

This is the "bad" cd-key bug. It is supposed to happen.

the problem is it is happening with some good CD keys too. I know this for sure cause when i bought the game I bought two for me and my buddy. Mine works fine, no bug, but the one I gave to him loses the GUI every now and then. (not all the way to map only, just the buttons to issue commands at a province, like mercenaries, recruit, transfer units, etc. and hotkeys still work)

he just exits out of the game then comes back in and its all better.

I have a legit version, too and I have experienced the bug aswell, mostly during my test games on Silent Seas when I was trying out something. I want to have confirmed that this is a CD key issue - who came up with that statement in the first place? I experienced a number of other graphic bugs aswell. Launching a second instance of Dom3 while another one is already running is just asking for (very colorful) trouble on my system.

Yeah, I had this happen repeatedly with a specific multiplayer game. I haven't seen it in any other of my games, though.

I dont think ANYONE said that its ALWAYS an illegal key.
I only said that redoing the key did fix some problems on one of my machines. And since I legally own 5 copies, I dont think it was an illegal key problem (in my case) but maybe just the key file getting corrupted by some stray bit. It might be an illegal key in SOME peoples case but either way "redo the key" appears to be a worthy suggestion.
