Re: spob04 Italian Social Republic
and the answers I gave there apply here as well but I will expand on this a bit
The terms used now work well enough. There is a very good chance any further changes to the game will involve changing OOB's like Italy and RSI in the same manner the Hungarian OOB was changed in V2. Non English names was an experiement in WW2 that was not repeated except in a very limited way in MBT 166/167 Bicicletta -> Bersaglieri ciclisti; "Bicicletta" fits the space available and there is no way to shorten or abbreviate "Bersaglieri ciclisti" so that it's readable to anyone. "Antipartigiana" just barely fits the space available, shortening "Squadra antipartigiani" so that it's understandable to everyone is impossible. The SM.82 is referred to as Canguru more often than Canguro so "Canguru" is used. Don |
Re: spob04 Italian Social Republic
Sure they work, they're just names.
I know the lenghth issue, so what about just "Ciclisti" "Muli" "Ausiliarie" "Grotta" and "Antipartigiani"? If I give you the whole name it's just for completeness, then you choose how to adapt them. And what would it be a "canguru"? I find it only in non-italian pages, probably an old error copied and copied again. In italian it's just Canguro (Kangaroo). If an italian tells you, you might as well believe it. |
Re: spob04 Italian Social Republic
"Mulo" is Mule ."Muli" is Mules the unit could be one or the other
As for "Antipartigiani" vs "Antipartigiana" when I translate "Anti Partisan" I get "anti partigiano" So what is it partigiana partigiani or partigiano ?? ( see now why "Anti Partisan" works so much better for me ? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif ) Don |
Re: spob04 Italian Social Republic
Partigiana is one , partigiano is one , partigiani is many . That's the drawback of a more civilized language... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif

As I said, when I translated "Partisan" I got "partigiano" which is what I should have got. Had I asked for "Partisans" I would have got "partigiani" but in English ( a most adaptable language ) a unit like that would not be named "Anti Partisan<s> but simply "Anti Partisan" since gender really shouldn't enter into it. However, when this was originally done the word was feminized for whatever reason and you're the first person to spot the error. It's too bad you hadn't mentioned this three weeks ago. It might have been the inspiration I needed to convert the OOB to English http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif Don |
