[OT] Dogscoff\'s free million (currency) idea #2.
I have to say I'm a little disappointed that no-one has designed, built and delivered me a laptop/desktop hybrid PC as outlined in million (currency) thread #1. Maybe I'll have more luck with this one, which is somewhat less ambitious.
Have you ever sent an email with an attachment, only you forgot the attachment, and then had to send another email immediately afterwards with the attachment on it and write something like "oops, forgot the attachment! Sorry!" in the message? How about a little bit of software that plugs in to your browser and checks the message text for phrases like "please find attached..." or "here is the file..." or "...the file attached...". If one of these phrases is present in the email and you then click 'send' without attaching a file, it flags up a big "Did you forget to attach a file?" message and gives you the option to go back to the email and change it before sending, or to send anyway. Obviously it would have to have an off switch, to stop it from becoming the next clippy. ("It looks like you're writing a letter!") and it would have to recognise text from another email in a reply/forward, and you could bolt various other clever options onto it, but that's the guts of it right there. What does anyone think? Doable? sellable? Better as open-source? Already out there somewhere? Usual T&Cs, the idea is all yours if you want it- Just send me a copy of the finished product=-) |

I wouldn't pay money for such a thing myself. I'm old enough to remember when you didn't have to wait for the OS' "permission" to turn the computer off. I find the whole "mother, may I?" school of software design more annoying than helpful most of the time. Definitely give the option to turn the thing off. I'd rather have the annoyance of occaisionally making a mistake to inspire me to pay more attention to what I'm doing. |

If you really want the OS off, there's a handy switch on the back...

Argh, when I saw the thread title, I was hoping for a discussion on a currency option in SEV! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Well, if one player wants to play a 'bank' and the other players agree to uphold a currency standard...

I did that in one P&N game when I was playing as a nomad.
Nobody had to agree to anything; they just had to pay the exchange rate if they wanted the resources/ships/tech/credit/etc http://www.geocities.com/hohoho611ca/catalog.html |

I knew someone had done it; just couldn't remember who.

Re: [OT] Dogscoff\'s free million (currency) idea #
You could almost do it with the filters in Eudora 4.2, except there wasn't one for "no attachment". In general though, it's a pretty simple request, and a nice idea.

I sure could have used that. Just ask Fyron. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif
