Kind of wierd idea: Province defense buildings
Okay, let me preface this by saying I'm not even sure its a good idea or that I would want it. It may have already been talked about.
Static Province defenses (in addition to troops) PD 10 1 flimsy tower 1 xbow (AP) bolt/2 turns, 50 hp, 10 prot PD 20 2 flimsy tower 1 xbow (AP) bolt/2 turns, 50 hp, 10 prot PD 30 1 Medium tower 1 flaming xbow bolt/2 turns + 6 AP damage, 100 hp, 12 prot all the way up to the max (125?) and maybe a shadow blast, with various spells in between. etc, etc probably placed in front or mid but with 50-100 range. Probably doable by modding a unit to be immobile and adding it to PD at the various stages. Pretty hefty HP/protection so it would generally be near the last to die. Maybe make the 10/20 PD versions smaller hp but increase greatly once past 20. 125 PD 2 Strong Shadow towers 1 shadow blast/turn, 300 hp, 20-24 prot, add a bit of defense or make lucky, ethereal or something. Other ideas, harder to implement: Archer cover wall +10-20 shield prot Raised archer/mage tower +20-40 range Various army buffers (allied or both) Various static battlefield spells If it proved to be too much, maybe just make them a site (not sure if that would work). In the past I thought about adding buildings with the #immobile tag as recruitable units in mods.
Some of the other ideas I came with beyond defensive structures were farms with supply bonuses, and magic gem producing mana nodes that could be placed on the field. It seemed a bit awkward the more I thought about it because the nodes would have human names like "Forsete the Death Node" and people could cast gift of reason on farms to make them odd as well. Your version of the idea would eliminate the naming issue because it would be for passive defense. I really like the way your talking about implementing it better than the way I was going to. The graphics would be fairly easy to do as well. If you decide to mod this, let me know if you need any help along the way. |

If this were done it could be coupled with a general revamping of the PD - there are some instances where the vanilla PD is a bit weird or could do with changing. Abysia EA PD getting humanbred etc.
I think it's very doable and could be good,.. the problem is with the mod commands we have you would end up replacing some extra units in current PDs in order to put the towers in. For instance if you wanted towers at a rate of 1 per 10 points of PD, you'd have to replace PD unit 1a or 1b. |

Well considering I barely have a clue how the whole modding process works... lets just say this is a taste tester first. I believe there was another post where they detailed modding PD or there have been previous examples. So I'd probably follow that, create the units (nation unspecific initially, then hopefully add national flavor later), plug em in with generic names and graphics - and hope someone with talent would help out. I've always felt it was a bummer not to get any extra advantage out of 30+ PD in the sense of new units. Immobile towers shouldn't be a problem, don't know about auto casting units... can mage-types be scripted in PD? Maybe throw like 100 enc on them so they only get the one spell for battlefield spells? If a unit in PD is given a unique item (something with a battlefield ench affect) would it screw up unique items around the world? For example, maybe a high PD unit would be an immobile unit that held an unquenchable sword. Hmm, probably not if it was on the unit itself and not a slot, dunno. hmmm... |

if you do something like 1 per 10 points of PD is it possible with only 1a or 1b to give upgraded units as PD increases? From what I'm reading it seems you'll just get more of the 1/10 pd units. Gonna go see if I can find that previous post on PD. |

Well I didn't find anything in the old posts related to adding a new 1C or 2C. I guess you could do something along the lines of a 1/5 small tower per PD at 1b (and adjust 1a to cover the other in #'s) and a 1/5 (or 1/10) at 2b
Going off Sombre's post regarding: "You can change the PD for nations very easily. You could easily add ONE medium and ONE high-level tower to the PD, by replacing the commanders. For most nations, the towers would be more useful than the commanders, even though low-level mages are a bit more common as the PD 20+ commander.

They might be more useful, but I'd be sad to see the commanders replaced entirely.

What about a commander *inside* of a tower? (E.g., mark the tower as a commander.) I presume you'd be sad about replacing the commanders in case all the genuine army commanders get killed. If you're sad because you like the flavor of e.g. a Bandar Commander in the field this won't help.
