Name modding question

With the Epic Hero Mod in the works, I will need to have several unique names for various heroes. With Beowulf, that was easy, i used one of the 2 custom nametype numbers to achieve that(127).

#selectnametype 127
#addname "Beowulf"
#end

I made a 2nd unique hero and used the nametype number 128 and it worked. But I used 149 and it did not work. The modding manual says you can use the 2 custom nametype files(127, 128, or the high unused numbers(141-149).

So if i want a unique name for every hero of the MA, how can that be achieved?

Re: Name modding question

The answer is that you can't do it. In fact most mods don't use new nametypes at all because they are so few in number and will always end up conflicting with each other. This is especially true when it comes to heroes, who you might have 7 of per nation - giving each one their own nametype of one name just isn't worth it.

I'd just let them have random names or choose from the existing nametypes, but make it clear what their /real/ name is in the description.

Maybe next time the epic heroes mod runs into a problem you should post in there instead of making a new thread - otherwise the forum will get a bit messy with all the one question, two or three answer posts threads.

Re: Name modding question

That is a good idea. At the moment i posted, I felt the particular question had a broad application to many mods, and not just the Epic Hero Mod.

But I will be more sensitive to hogging up the page 1 threads in the future, and try to ask more of these type questions in the Epic Hero thread or by pm.

Thanks for pointing that out, I was not even considering that issue when i posted, and I apologize for starting so many mod question threads the past few days.

Re: Name modding question

No problem, I think the recent rash of questions and answers has helped a few lurkers out and encouraged more people to get into modding. So it's all good.

Now we just need a fleet of willing playtesters :]
