Anonymous vs Identifiable rituals
Re-posting from here
http://www.shrapnelcommunity.com/thr...&fpart=all I was unable to find a comprehensive list of which rituals were anonymous, so I'm asking if anyone can confirm any of the unknowns. edit: So this is what it looks like so far. If anyone can think of a missed ritual that affects another nation please let me know, or if there are any incorrect listings. Anonymous: Hurricane Dispel Fires from Afar Rain of toads Leprosy Wolven winter Locust swarms Raging Hearts Seeking Arrow Baleful Star Blight Black Death Phantasmal attack - no flag Tidal Wave Volcanic eruption Earth Attack Send lesser horror Send Horror Vengeance of the dead - if MR check is made Ghost riders Flames from the sky Murdering winter Mind Hunt Melancholia crumble Fate of Oedipus Horror Seed Beckoning Infernal Disease Identifiable: Imprint souls Call of the wild call of winds Arouse hunger Horde from hell Army of the dead Angelic Host Send Tupilak Carrion Reanimation Vengeance of the dead - If MR check fails Wind ride - If successful Wish |
Re: Anonymous vs Identifiable rituals
As has been previously noted, any spell that summons monsters which stick around -- including Carrion Animation and Angelic Host -- is not anonymous. Spells which summon 'Special Monsters' -- horrors, earth elementals -- are unflagged. 'Send Tupilak' is obvious, because there's only one nation which can cast it.
A successful 'Vengeance of the Dead' is, if memory serves, a flagged attack -- if the MR check is made, it's anonymous, but the battle resulting from a failed check is not. Spells which cause pure damage or other effects not causing a battle, are always anonymous -- to a point. The quirk is that you can get some information from the effect of a damaging dome, if memory serves. |
Re: Anonymous vs Identifiable rituals
Thanks Taqwus - so does that mean that pretty much all the remaining "unsure" are all anonymous? |
Re: Anonymous vs Identifiable rituals
Well, if Wind ride is successful then you can be pretty sure who cast it. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif But I guess you mean if the attempt was unsuccesful.

Re: Anonymous vs Identifiable rituals
Similarly, if you Wish for provinces, the other players won't know who cast the wish but they WILL know who now owns the province!

Re: Anonymous vs Identifiable rituals
Does wind ride give any message if unsuccessful? If so, does it identify the caster?
Does Wish put out any sort of global message to the recipients or does it just take the provinces? (Possible there is a province losing activity that turn and you never see the flag). |
Re: Anonymous vs Identifiable rituals
Back in Dominions 1 at least Vengeance of the Dead was fully anonymous. The monsters that attacked were Special Monsters - the player who casted it didn't have control over them. It was more like Manifestation (anonymous) and Earth Attack (anonymous) rather than a regular Assassination attempt (not anonymous).
Flames from the Sky and Murdering Winter are anonymous. Mind Hunt is anonymous. I'm pretty sure Melancholia is anonymous, too. |
Re: Anonymous vs Identifiable rituals
maybe Leprosy is anonymous too
|
Re: Anonymous vs Identifiable rituals
Pretty much.
Anything that resembles a random event already in the game, shows up as that event. Nobody gets blamed for disease outbreaks, or even strange things like flames falling from the heavens... Even when Mind Hunt -fails- because the caster's silver cord got severed, it doesn't tell you who the caster was. |
Re: Anonymous vs Identifiable rituals
People will eventually realize that someone bombards them with anonymous spells though because if you get a hurricane on your capitol and your most valuable provinces every or every 2nd turn it is very unlikely that it is a random event.
Usually you can then find out which player most likely used those rituals on you. |
