Research and Intel Component?

I beleive that there was a mod in SEIV that utilized components on ships that would produce research points.

Did this actually work, and would the points go into the research point pool? I thought I read somewhere that the points never really went into the races reseach pool like a research facilities points did. Could be wrong on this, that was a long time ago. If so does, SEV allow for this type of component? If it does how hard would it be to get the AI to utilize these in their exploration ship designs or a research vessel.

Next if this does work, would one be able to mod the game for a ship with a research component to park themselves on a space anomolie to gain a bonus on the research points. Example a ship with two research stations each producing 100 research points a turn decides to head towards that stellar storm in the next system that is just sitting there and in game terms doubles its research points (to account for discoveries) found while studying the storm. So each turn instead of producing 200 points just for floating around, it now produces 400 because it is in an area of interest. Possibly one could figure out a way to mod different types of research modifiers for different types of anomolies.

And if this works for research points, I am assuming that this could also work with intel points. Intelligence ships gathering data. Now because it is in a system that is not owned by the player possibly cloaked, it gathers five times the amount of intel.

Wishful thinking or possibly possible? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/redface.gif

I think that it did work in SEIV; however, the points did not show up in the empire report or somesuch.

However, I'm pretty sure the second is impossible.

Re: Research and Intel Component?

SE4 1.91 added 5 new arbitrary point generation abilities (research, intel, 3 resources). They all work as intended, generating points/resources each turn (independent from racial traits, system bonus facilities, etc.). The only quirk is that resources generated in this manner are not tallied in the empire report; they are added to the stores each turn, just not tallied. Research and intel points show up in their respective screens without issue.

AFAIK, SE5 does not have any similar abilities. You can use the regular facility-type abilities on components, but they have to be in orbit of a colony to function. Their ability values are added to the production of a colony in the same sector.

The space anomaly thing is a no go.

Thanks for the responses, perhaps in the future this might be addressed as in SEIV patches.

Could something be made of the phrase 'Orbital Mining?'

I assume you meant SE5 patches? Cause they work correctly in SE4 (save the display quirk).
