Desertion

Anyone know exactly how this works? Say you suffer some catastrophic hit to income (Perpetual Storm, Utterdark, nasty ritual spam, etc.). Who's going to leave, and how soon? Are commanders immune to desertion?

Any ways to mitigate this income loss (other than the obvious one of clobbering the person who inflicted it upon you)? For example, does Second Sun cancel out Utterdark? What would happen with Perpetual Storm or Utterdark combined with Gift of Nature's Bounty?

Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience.

Commanders stay. Not sure how the troop desertions go, since it's really hard to pinpoint exactly who/what just left you.

Gift of nature's bounty will combo with utterdark by giving you a large percentage more of your really crappy income. At most you can get 300% income from it, while utterdark knocks out 90%, so you're looking at 30% of normal income, and that's with 10 dominion in all your provinces. Might pay upkeep, but you're still pretty screwed. Second sun will just make it hotter, not lighter.

Utterdark pretty much wins. But it costs a lot of base gems, and it's twice as hard to alchemize to death than to astral, so you should be able to drop a dispel on it if you're not already overmatched. People will be happy to contribute to it going down.

If it's single-target rituals that are the problem a dome or two will work if they keep hitting the same province.

I think low moral soldiers desert first.
