Serious question regarding picking map sides!

I'm trying to play a scenario my friend and I have devised. It's using custom map #226 (Farmland), and it's an advance mission (USSR advances vs. USA, 1977.) The trouble is, I'm not sure how to set it up so that I (the USSR, the advancing side) set up on the side of the map that doesn't have the water on it--the whole point is that the American player starts with his back against the water. I've tried every possible way I can think of to try and remedy this, but the computer starts me on the shore side of the map no matter what, whether I start the scenario as Player 1 or Player 2.

How can I manually switch the side that I start on? There has to be a simple way to do this.

As far as I´ve experienced, russia along with other countries will always be at the right side of the field and there´s no way to switch it, a biult-in code issue I believe.

Re: Serious question regarding picking map sides!

You can bypass it with a series of comparative tests and then use other countries for setup, switching to "Allied" units in the purchase. Done this more than once...
Example: I wanted to make (in WWII) battle with Czechoslovakia vs. Germany. As default, Czechoslovakia started on the right side while I wanted it to be on left to reflect historical reality on that map so I set the battle up as France vs. Germany and then switched in purchase phase. Worked well except victory points which are belonging to the ersatz nation but as long as you know which are yours... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Re: Serious question regarding picking map sides!

If it's a true SCENARIO and not a generated battle setting the sides is done in the intial stages.

In this case, after loading the sceanrio editor....

Set both nations

press the SWAP button on the lower left

Select map 226

Buy the units for both sides and deploy

The USSR will be on the left and the USA will be on the right where the water is
