Question about huge galaxies
I sometimes see people mention they set up a game with 175+ systems. The most I can get out of the random-map generator (set on large, mid-life or spiral) is 40-50 systems.
What gives? |
Re: Question about huge galaxies
Go into the settings.txt file and change the Maximum Number of Systems line to 250 or 255. Don't use anything higher than 255, the game can't handle it (has to do with the type of variable used or something).

Thanks !

Re: Question about huge galaxies
BTW even if you set it for 255, you will probably only get about 200-225 systems because of the way they are placed by the game engine. You can increase your chances of having more systems by changing the setting for min distance between systems from 1 to 0. I think it's in quadrant.txt. Decreasing the min warp point angle and increase the max number of warp points per system may help with that too, but I found it really hard to defend a border of an empire when I did this.

Re: Question about huge galaxies
Go to the scenario/mod archive and download my moons.zip file. In the patchsys.txt is a list of changes for QuadrantTypes.txt which will give you a better seperation of systems. Basically INCREASE the spacing to 2. Increase the warp links to 7. Decrease the angle to 30. I never got a large quadrant system with LESS than 200 of 255 systems in over 100 tries. OTOH I never got a quadrant with MORE than 241. Typical was 225-235. You might also want to change the other stuff if you generate LOTS of planets like I do, but a typical 255 quadrant with the default system types is about 900-1100 planets. That may be enough for most people.

LCC
Thanks for the info, I'll get into that more advanced modding type play soon. For now I am in my first PBW game and wanted to see how that works... |
