A basic question
When you cast a battle field spell like flying shard or firewall it is supposed to work like normal missile right?
What I'm not sure is whether you need to do the DRN + Size + 2 if magical weapon vs 2+DRN+ (2X parry value) check first, or do you go straight away to the damage roll phrase secondly, there are weapons that target body parts like legs, heads, hearts, how does the mechanics work for that? |
Re: A basic question
The weapons give afflictions on hit, although there could be some kind of check involved to determine if the affliction is really transmitted.

Re: A basic question
You definitely need the opposed roll check, which is why shields protect against Blade Wind. This does not apply to spells that have AOE 1 or greater.

Re: A basic question
Thanks Maxwilson so it means something like flame bolt which has AOE 0 would get a chance to be blocked by shield, but something like Fireblast or Fireball with AOE 1 would just deal damage...
Very very good to know. That makes spells with AOE 0 a lot less useful me thinks Another silly question. Magic beings require magic leadership right? But what if I have summoned a commander (say Elemental Queen of Air) using a ritual, do i need any mage with magic leadership or can I send the elemental queen of air alone in battles? After all she has paths in air ,so she can lead herself??? |
Re: A basic question
Leaders who are magic beings do not themselves require magic leadership. You can even use gift of reason on a magic being that does require magic leadership, and they will no longer require leadership. So in short, yes the Elemental Queen of Air can lead herself, with or without magic paths.

Re: A basic question
Better to say that no unit which is already a commander itself requires any other commanders to move or fight. Doesnt matter what the commander is - magic, undead, demon, whatever.

Re: A basic question
Yes, AOE 1 spells are significantly better than single-target spells. Except the single-target spells which are 100 precision; for some reason they don't count as missile attacks. Incinerate, Drain Life, Frozen Heart, etc. Single-target 100-precision spells also tend to target more powerful enemies, not chaff, which gives them another little bit of efficiency.
